I began my work as a mosaic artist, ironically, when I built a home. Installing the flooring woke up a desire to work in tile, glass and grout. While I use many mediums, I’m particularly drawn to the materials in mosaics because they already have their own innate beauty. I love the challenge of taking the tesserae, and utilizing it to show off its best features telling a larger story. It almost feels like a team effort with the materials. You can view my work, and see many tutorials for free on my blog, www.collidescopes.wordpress.com
I’ve always been creative and started designing and selling jewelry about 25 years ago while working. I’ve always wanted to try mosaic and found a 2 day workshop to learn how to mosaic a Mandela. I was hooked and took more lessons at this amazing teacher’s private studio. I’ve been doing this for 3 years and have loved every minute- my studio is my happy place and now that I’m retired I can spend my all of my time creating. The house and garden are full of mosaics and I do commission projects. I’m known for my bright colors and beachy vibe.
My work life for years was in journalism and as a freelance writer. Then I discovered the pleasure of making mosaics in 2011, serving as an apprentice to Lorraine Meade in Richmond, Va. After working with her at Art Works, an RVA gallery/studio complex, I moved into my own studio across the hall, then to my newest space at 17th Street Studios in the Shockoe Bottom area of Richmond. My mosaic work coincided with a gradual retirement and has become my main expression of creativity.
Since 2019, Lisa has been focusing on stained glass and mixed media mosaics. She currently has a studio/workshop at The Maple Leaf in Millvale, where she works on her art and teaches classes. All mosaics are designed and made by Lisa Seel, Owner & Artist, Cricket Mosaics in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I have been doing mosaics for approximately 15 years. I like to use iridescent, glitter, and mirrored tiles in my projects. I love color and I like my mosaics to reflect the light. I am the mosaic artist for The Water Conservation Garden in El Cajon, CA.
Carol Lancour Mosaic Artist made her first mosaic, a flower pot, in 2002. She was hooked ever since. She crafts her custom mosaics from hand cut pieces of vitreous, stained, or fused glass using the same methods that have been employed by mosaic artists since antiquity. Carol works exclusively with glass because the refraction and reflection of light lend the mosaic a liveliness that other materials lack. She particularly enjoys doing large-scale installations, such as walls and floors, because the art becomes part of the structure of the building. See my work at: www.marinmosaics.com
Mostly work in stained glass but love all the small details. I live in Hawaii so I am inspired through Hawaii's nature. My Facebook is: https://www.facebook.com/lindyfisher
I prefer to use many different mediums, such as stained-glass, smalti, polymer clay, acrylics, paint, pebbles, etc. I sometimes find working in a single medium restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style. Most recently I’ve discovered the Skeewbacker hanging system. This allows me to use the lighter wediboard with the option to frame or not to frame. My work can be seen at Art Speaks Gallery in Mathews Va and locally at Cape Charles Va.
My Facebook business page shows photos of my classes, and what my students create, using mostly mosaics and stained glass. We have created gazing balls, turtles, dragonflies, feathers, angels, picture frames, bird houses. This summer we will be designing patio table tops. I also do custom stained glass and mosaics. The latest project was a Rampant Lion, (the Scottish Flag emblem). Facebook business page is https://www.facebook.com/Splintersshard - email me at wdbrown83@gmail.com
As with many artists, I’ve experimented with many different types of art and crafts over the years. It wasn’t until I took a beginning mosaic class at my local community college, that I found a medium that impassions me. At the end of that first course, I was well and truly hooked on creating mosaic art. My preferred material is stained glass because I love the colors, textures and striations available. That said, I continue to explore other materials to add interest and texture to my art. No matter if I am making art for indoors or outdoors, the materials I use are of the highest quality and each piece of art is made to last indefinitely.
I create my house numbers using Skeew's wonderful Skeewbacker numbers as my base. My search took a few years to find a product, not wood, that would survive outside and these are perfect! Buyers love this aspect. My designs are made to order with varying themes from desert colors, peace symbols, flowers and butterflies, beach , and one just completed for a young man who was accepted into the fire academy. My numbers are sold through my Etsy shop, HisMosaics here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/HisMosaics
Yolanda studied at Paier College of Art in New Haven, Connecticut, where she majored in Illustration. However, it was the intricate and expressive nature of mosaic art that ultimately captured her talent and passion. She has since traveled extensively across the United States and abroad, studying with master mosaic artists to refine her craft. See her wonderful mosaic work here: https://www.yolandabergman.com
