How To Tile a Skeewbacker Frame

Unlike traditional frames that simply contain your artwork, Skeewbacker Frames are designed to extend it.

Instead of boxing your art in, Skeewbacker Frames create a striking dimensional effect that allows your piece to visually lift off the wall. The result? Artwork that feels more intentional, more architectural, and more alive in its space—while giving you complete control over how the frame interacts with both the wall and the art itself.

Whether you’re tiling, painting, or experimenting with mixed media, Skeewbacker Frames are made to support creativity without limits.

Directions for Tiling a Skeewbacker Frame

Tiling your Skeewbacker Frame is simple and designed to keep edges clean and professional. Follow these steps for best results:

Note: Install hanging kit as usual. Make sure it is flush with the surface in case the frame covers it.

  1. Flip the frame over - The dotted side should be facing up.
  2. Protect your work surface - Lay down Saran Wrap or wax paper, then place the frame upside down on top. This prevents glue from sticking the frame to your table.
  3. Glue tiles to the inside area of the frame - Use the table surface as your “stop” so tiles will be flush with the top edge when the frame is flipped back over.
  4. Let Dry
  5. Attach the frame to the backer - Run a bead of glue around the back side of the frame. Carefully line it up with the Skeewbacker Board and press down firmly. Remove any excess glue.
  6. Let dry
  7. Tile or paint the remaining outside edges - Finish the frame to match or complement your artwork.
