I Asked Jolino Bessera

Getting paid for making mosaics requires some level of marketing no matter what you call it or how unstructured it may be. One of the successful mosaic artists in the Los Angeles area, Jolino Bessera, recently shared with "Mosaics Business" his top three marketing tactics. Jolino said:

"My promotion consists of a photo email blast of my latest mosaic as well as any articles or mentions to my ever growing email list of clients and hope-to-have-as-clients. Keep a growing list!

I also select a few clients to send printed presentation via snail mail. Sometimes I print magnets, cards, etc. Once I even had a small run of scarfs printed and sent them as a gift. It has become more unique to send it to them the old fashioned way.

Lastly, I submit my work to art blog sites like Bored Panda and Colossal. Art directors are using these blogs to find artists the way art directors used to rely on analog Illustration Workbooks for artists.

You've got to try everything. My life has been about going for it. So - go for it."

Since that conversation I heard a quote attributed to P.T. Barnum - "Without promotion, something terrible happens - Nothing."
