Instructions for "Lightning" Mirrors
Approved Glues Only:
To adhere the acrylic mirror to the backer, use either Gorilla Super Glue Clear, or Loctite Mirror Adhesive. Do not use thin set, weld bond, or any other glues on the mirrors, as they will eat away the silver backing.
Tiles:
8mm and 3mm Kismet Tiles, stained glass, some small smalti, and vitreous glass tiles all work very well as they are essentially the same height as the mirror. Use weld bond or other glues appropriate for your tiles. This is an indoor only mirror.
Step 1 - After you carefully unwrap the backer and mirrors, keep the protective films on the mirrors in place as acrylic mirrors are very easy to scratch. Set mirrors aside.
Step 2 - Recommend you mosaic the “lightning” areas first. This will help keep anything from scratching the acrylic mirrors. CRITICAL: Stay within the lightning areas (the lines printed on the wood) so the mirrors will fit correctly. Periodically dry-fit the mirror pieces so you make sure they fit correctly. Do Not let glues get on the mirror backs. This will protect the silver backing.
Step 3 - After the mosaic is completely done and glues are totally dry, grout if desired. Thoroughly clean away any glue or grout that is in the space where the mirrors go. Again, protect the silver backing.
Step 4 - Glue the mirrors down. Leave the clear covering on the mirrors. Using the Gorilla Super Glue or Loctite Mirror Adhesive, spread glue evenly over either the back of the mirror or in the areas for the mirrors. Place the mirrors gently making sure they are positioned correctly.
Step 5 - To hang: Stick the double sided foam tape to your Sawtooth hanger and carefully position sawtooth hanger on the back of the wood. When all is complete, remove clear coverings from the mirrors - this can be challenging but find that corner of the plastic and pull off carefully. Now you’re ready to hang and enjoy!
