How to Start Selling Mosaics at Art Festivals
A few years ago at an art festival I was introduced to Cherie Bosela, a mosaic artist selling her mosaics at the festival. Since then, I have seen her at several other festivals and come to understand that selling mosaics at art festivals is an important part oft he mosaic art business. One day I asked Cherie about this part of her business and this is what I learned.
It is not a very difficult business to get in and the financial risk is pretty low. Cherie said they usually require an application (with a small fee) and that most of the festivals require you to have a white tent and walls to hang your art on.
She also offered an idea for "testing the water." The one-day art walks or wine festivals may only require a table, have a low booth fee, and don't have you tied up for 3 days. This way you can see what it's like to set up and take down a display of your art, and talk about your mosaics with the visitors.
Then if you want to take it to the next level, Cherie said the cost will range of $1,000-$3,000. To keep the cost down, you can look on Craig's list or Facebook groups for people selling their tents or booth set ups. Sometimes you can get a really good deal. If art festivals are something you know you are going to do, it's better to spend a little more money on better quality items. It will make your life so much easier when setting up and breaking down your booth.
Fall and Spring are the seasons that most festivals occur.
